£27,510
That’s the size of the grant that Doxey Community Association has been awarded by the Arts Council for an arts project in Doxey.
You will recall the visits which the Mikron touring theatre paid to Doxey last year and in June this year. As well as performing their plays, the company did theatre workshops, lodged with local families and got to know something of the community.
Mikron and Doxey people got on very well together. The latter had shown a lot of interest in what the company did. Together they developed the idea of a joint theatre project. The plan is for people who live in Doxey – with help from Mikron and local professionals – to develop and produce a play about our community. Following the world premiere of this in Doxey, Mikron would adapt the play for its standard cast of four actors and take it on tour across the country.
It is clear that, across Doxey there is a lot of interest in the theatre and a lot of talent. This event will give an opportunity to many people to make a contribution to one or more aspects of the production: writing; make-up; lighting; scenery and property construction; publicity; music; and, of course, acting.
For some this will be a matter of applying existing skills, but local professionals will run workshops for those who want to learn. Enthusiasm to work together to produce a memorable show is the most important thing. If you would like to be involved call Jane on 621453, Joan on 251622.
