"Doxey Marshes Site of Special Scientific Interest is well known, located as it is, at the heart of the busy town of Stafford. The lowland wet grassland habitat that Doxey Marshes represents has reduced by 75% since the end of the Second World War, due to agricultural intensification leading to draining of land. The habitat is one of the most threatened nationally, along with related wildlife such as snipe, lapwing, little ringed plover, otter and water shrew. " (SBC Document - see below)

The Marshes are to the North of the main railway line and are accessed from the 'Doxey Link'  cycle/foot path that follows the old Uttoxeter Line from Doxey Road to Eccleshall Road. The linked documents below give details of the marshes and of the efforts being made to preserve and publicise them.
