Mother Goose flies

Two cracking performances rounded off the hard work put in over the past months by the cast and crew of Doxey’s pantomime - Mother Goose.  From the start of each performance the audience - in excess of 120 on both occasions - entered rapidly into the spirit of the occasion, singing along and making the required responses.  After the Saturday performance, the audience were asked to fill in an evaluation sheet.  The comments were highly complimentary.  Well done, everyone!

This production built on the success of Village Voices - the play about Doxey, done by Doxey people - performed in the spring of 2006.  However, in addition to many of the Village Voices team, Mother Goose attracted more than 15 new participants, many of them young people.  A major aim of Doxey’s theatre projects has been to involve as many members of the community as possible, particularly young people.  One unusual way in which the community was involved in this project was in baking cakes for the free interval refreshments!

After the success of Mother Goose, Doxey people are already talking about the next production.  All Doxey people are welcome to take part and there is a wide variety of ways of doing this in addition to acting, singing and dancing.  People attending the Saturday performance of Mother Goose were invited to express an interest.  Sadly, some did so, but did not give any contact details.  They are particularly invited to get in touch.  Call Jane on 621453.

It only takes a few minutes to complete and your views are important, so don’t delay, act today.  Say what you think so that the Committee can take action in co-operation with the organisations that govern our lives and provide our services.

A trip to Blackpool

For the second year running, David Hughes will be organising a day-trip to Blackpool for Doxey people.  Basic cost is £14 for adults;  £11.50 for senior citizens and £9 for children, but the cost will be much lower if there are enough people to fill a coach.

The date of the trip has yet to be arranged, but it is expected that it will be Saturday, 2 September or Saturday, 9 September. Call David on 600094 to register your interest.   You can also tell him, which date you prefer

Clear-out day - another useful job done

A big thank you to all those people who made the Spring clear-out Day a success;  to those who generously donated their unwanted items, to those of all ages who helped on the day and especially to Mike who organised it.   Over 95% of items were recycled and the rest has gone to charity shops and organisations and will be put to good use.

Can you help Doxey Pre-school Playgroup?

The playgroup in Doxey has been operating for over 30 years.  Sadly, its future is now in doubt.

There is a shortage of people who are prepared to serve on the committee. Because it is a registered charity, officers can not serve for more than six years.  There has to be new blood on the committee every so often.  Could you help here?  The job is not very demanding; a couple of meetings each term, each lasting for no more than an hour and a half.  Please call Joan on 251622 if you can help.
