Book now for Mikron to avoid disappointment

Only a couple of weeks to Mikron’s next performance in Doxey.  This takes place

      on Saturday, 10 June

      at 6.30 p.m.

in the hall of St Thomas’s and St Andrew’s Church

Thos who have seen a Mikron production will know to expect a fast moving play with lots of songs and humour and a tug at the heartstrings, too.  The play - “Carrying On”, written by Richard Povall, who wrote Village Voices - recalls the fortunes of a family firm of narrow boat builders.  A link is provided throughout the narrative by the attempts to trace the history of one of their boats by a couple who bought it in the twenty-first century.

Tickets cost £5 (concessions £4) and can be obtained from Bradbury Rise Stores or Doxey Stores or call Jane on 621453 or Joan on 251622.

Parish Plan - latest

The Parish Plan Committee would like to thank everyone who took the time to complete the questionnaire and “have their say.”    The information that has been gathered will be analysed and put to good use in the compilation of the report and in discussions with the local authorities.   You may rest assured that action will be taken on all matters you feel need attention both now and in the future and the Committee will be speaking as soon as possible with people who requested further discussions.

Have a go at sculpture

Doxey Community Association has acquired the services of a professional sculptor and teacher to give guidance to anyone - experienced or novice, young or old - in Doxey who would like to try their hand at sculpture.  He is Adam Wilkinson from Stafford College.  He did Stafford’s 800 sculpture out of bike parts which you may have seen recently in the local newspapers.

The session will take place

        on Sunday, 11 June

        from 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.

meeting at St Thomas’s and St Andrew’s church

Refreshments will be provided.

All Doxey residents will be welcome whatever their age or previous experience, but children under 12 should be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Materials will be provided, but if you have anything which you think might be useful do bring it along.  There is no charge, but donations towards the cost of materials will be welcome.

This event will be the first of a series.  During the afternoon Andrew will be discussing with participants what further training in sculpture they might like.  The possibility of developing a sculpture trail in Doxey will also be considered and your thoughts on this will be very useful.

 Doxey School Fete

The date set for this year’s fete is

        Saturday, 8th July

This promises to be a bigger event this year as organisations other than the PTA will be putting on stalls and there will be some activities for children organised by the parish council.  Also, a 3D map of Doxey will be on view as part of the parish plan activities.  If your organisation would like to have a stall call Claire on 244026.

More theatre in Doxey

On Monday, 10 July the Etruria Café Theatre will be bringing its latest play to the parish church hall in Doxey.  The play is performed by professional actors.  A particular feature of this group’s performances is the cabaret style where the audience sits at tables at which refreshments are served.
