Doxey Day - a real community event Another Doxey Day is to be held in conjunction with Doxey Primary School PTA’s summer fete. This will take place on Saturday, 8th July from 2.00 p.m. in Doxey School entry free There will be lots of things to do and see, organised by several different Doxey groups including the PTA. There will be the fund-raising stalls - try your luck on the human fruit machine - and a variety of displays. The three dimensional map of Doxey - made largely by Year 4 at the school - will be on view. This will help visitors to express their views about things they would like to see happen in Doxey in the future, to be put in the parish plan. Of special note will be some novel and exciting games put on by the parish council. So, come along and enjoy yourselves in a variety of ways. Support the school and celebrate the good things which happen in Doxey. This event is for everyone in Doxey - not just parents of children at the school. Come along and make it a real community event.
Dance with a difference On Saturday, 15 July a workshop on Indian Dance will be held from 10.30 a.m. to about 11.30 a.m. in the hall of St Thomas’s and St Andrew’s Church There is no charge for this and all will be welcome. Come along to learn some new steps and have some fun. Note Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
"A Novice’s Guide to Good" Through a tangle of ghosts and chips, Barb and Carol ride a roller coaster of emotions - is it worth it for just one lost soul? Who’s helping? Who’s hindering? Hang on to your Kiss-Me-Quick hats, snatch up your sarnies, grab your gratis wine and plunge headlong into this rollicking comedy. This gives a flavour of the play which the Etruria Café Theatre - a professional company from Stoke - will put on in Doxey on Monday, 10 July at 6.30 p.m. in the hall of St Thomas’s and St Andrew’s Church Tickets are £5 (concessions £4). Advance booking is vital as the capacity is limited. Call Jane on 621453 or Joan on 251622. A particular feature of this group’s performances is the cabaret style where the audience sits at tables at which refreshments are served. How the pre-school playgroup can help your child Doxey Pre-school Playgroup is having an open day on Wednesday, 12 July starting at 10.30 a.m. in the hall of St Thomas’s and St Andrew’s Church Come along and see what the playgroup has to offer. You can also take the opportunity to book a place in September for your child. The annual general meeting of the playgroup will take place at 9.30 a.m. on the same day. Parents of children at the playgroup are welcome to attend.
Book your trip to Blackpool The trip to Blackpool has now been fixed for Saturday, 2 September leaving Stafford at 9.30 a.m. and returning by 9.30 p.m. Prices are: Adults - £14.50; Seniors - £11; Children - £9 These prices are based on block booking seats on a coach. However, if another 21 bookings are received a whole coach can be booked for the Doxey trip. The cost will then be £10 per head and there will be some flexibility about the start and finish times. Firm bookings must be received by 15 July. Call Dave on 600094. Full payment will be required by mid-August. New editorial arrangements for Doxey Times A change of editor for Doxey Times is planned. Fuller details will be given in future issues. What will happen right away, though, is that a new system for gathering news will be introduced. If you have something to say or an event to announce you should send the information as soon as you have it and not wait for someone to ask you about it. It is hoped that Doxey Times will be published every month, around the beginning of the month.
Mikron Doxey’s old friends the Mikron Theatre Company will be back in Doxey in September to perform the other play in their 2006 programme. This is called "Mrs Brunel" and is about the life and work of the great engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel as seen through his wife’s eyes. As usual, there will be the songs, the humour and a bit of pathos. The performance will take place on Sunday, 24 September in the afternoon. This is the general number for all non-urgent police business. With regard to contacting the Tillington, Holmcroft and Doxey neighbourhood team, you may have seen the article in the local press recently which gave new contact numbers. There is a mobile number: 07976 510 227. You can also leave a message for specific police officers by dialling 08453 30 31 32. You will then be asked to dial 0 followed by 4908 for Steve Croft. Doxey now has a police community support officer - Jamie Gough. You can leave a message for him by dialling the same number, followed by 06639. You can also send an email to our local beat officer - PC Steve Croft - at Steven.Croft@staffordshire.pnn.police.uk .It is important that you report anything of concern to the police. This is the only way in which they can make a judgement about where their priorities for action should lie. Coffee Morning Every Monday morning, coffee and tea are served in the community centre in Sutton Drive from 10.30 a.m. until 11.30. This is an opportunity to take a break, meet new people and have a chat. The coffee morning is open to anybody and people of all ages drop in.
The Doxey Friendship group meets onthe first Wednesday in the month at 2.00 p.m. in the parish church hall .Next meeting is on 5th July.
Digital photography Regular meetings are held for Doxey people who are interested in developing their skills, with a professional photographer providing advice. There is no charge. Call 607771 for details.
Doxey Parish Council (Website) Next meeting is on Thursday, 13 July at 7.00 p.m. in Doxey Primary School Doxey Community Association meets on the second Wednesday in each month at 7.00 p.m. in the community centre, Sutton Drive. All Doxey residents will be welcome. Next meeting is on 13 July. Agendas for meetings and minutes of meetings are displayed on the notice board. This is on the main road near to Doxey House, on the same side of the road as Doxey House and a bit further towards the motorway. Life support project This provides training in basic techniques for helping people in life-threatening situations. These are where a person has collapsed and is unconscious or is choking. Training is provided by a team headed by a local doctor. There are three sessions you can attend. Resuscitation of adults and older children Resuscitation of younger children and infants Helping someone who is choking and having difficulty breathing. Each session lasts about two hours. Refreshments are provided. Fifty people have taken part so far and 38 have done all three sessions. More sessions will be held as long as there is a demand for them.
