Would you know what to do?
Someone collapses in front of you. They might have had a heart attack. Speedy action – before an ambulance can arrive – could make all the difference between life and death. If you knew what to do in such a situation, you might be able to save a life.
It is easy to learn some very basic life support techniques and you won’t need to go outside Doxey to do this. Later this year Life Support Project sessions will be held in Doxey for people to learn, in a very practical way, methods of giving essential help in an emergency. A single session of a little more than an hour will be enough.

Village Voices – the last night
The last night of Mikron’s 2005 season will be a performance of Village Voices in Marsden, near Huddersfield. There is a celebration afterwards at the Marsden Mechanics Club. Some people from Doxey have already arranged to go. If you would like to join them, you will need to book your ticket soon; £7 each or £5 unwaged. Contact Joan on 251622. If there are enough people wanting to go and come back the same night, a coach can be booked.
Coming soon at Doxey’s parish church
New kitchen
At last, the church of St Thomas and St Andrew in Doxey has got its refurbished kitchen. It will be formally opened by the dean of Stoke on Trent on Monday 12 September at 6.45 p.m.
All mod cons will mean that the kitchen will be safer and more pleasant to work in; a bonus for all using the hall. If you wish to hire the hall, enjoying the benefits of the new kitchen as well, call Pam on 241256.
Harvest supper
This will take place
on Saturday 24 September
Look on the church notice board for details.
Doxey Parish Council
The September meeting was held
on Thursday, 8 September
in Doxey Primary School
Future meetings are likely to be held early each month. The next one is on Thursday, 6 October. The agenda will be on the notice board near Doxey House about a week in advance of the meeting. If you want to know the exact date of subsequent meetings or have some issue which you think the parish council should discuss, call the chair, Nigel, on 07974 755 685.
Clear out day plus
There is going to be another chance to get rid of those things you have no use for, but have kept because they are too good to throw away. Bring them along to the clear out day on
Sunday, 8 October
between 1.30 p.m. and 3.00 p.m.
at the Sutton Centre, Sutton Drive
Or come along and see if there is anything which you could use. If there is, you can take it away for free.
Please note, certain restrictions apply to what can be brought to a clear out day. If you have any doubts call Mike on 607434.
But you may have something which is too big to bring along to clear-out or which may have only limited appeal. Or, maybe, you won’t be able to come along on October 8th.
In these cases you can use Doxey Times to tell people about what you have on offer. Just call 251622. Articles will be advertised strictly on the basis that no money changes hands and the editor’s decision on whether to accept an advertisement is final.
The Furniture Exchange will also accept unwanted furniture in good condition. Call 606674.
Fun Day – 20 August
This was very much enjoyed by all those who took part. Many thanks are due to Pat and John Perks for all the hard work they put into organising the event, to Dave and Linda from the Bradbury Rise Stores for providing the prizes and drinks, to the parish church for the loan of the parachute and to all those who came along to help.
Doxey Community Association and Neighbourhood Watch
The next meeting will take place
on Wednesday, 14 September
at 7.00 p.m.
in the community centre, Sutton Drive
This will include a talk about how Neighbourhood Watch works and how to get one organised in your neighbourhood.
All will be welcome.
Theatre in Doxey – the next step
Several of the people who took part in the Village Voices production earlier this year have been bitten by the acting bug. They don’t want that to be the end of productions put on by Doxey people. There have been a number of suggestions about what to do next. A popular one is some kind of "pantomime" early in the new year.
A meeting has been called to discuss possibilities.
on Thursday, 29 September
at 7.00 p.m.
in the community centre, Sutton Drive
It doesn’t matter whether you were involved in Village Voices or not. If you have any interest in a theatre production – acting, music, writing, set design, lighting, etc – come to the meeting.
We smartened up Doxey
The litter pick on 8 August went very well. About 15 people came along at the start and many children joined in on the way. Local people were very appreciative of the efforts made and one lady brought out a bag of sweets for the children.
When you can see how much better the place looks without litter, people are more likely to keep it that way. Well done all those who took part!
