The Doxey area is part of the Tillington Ward which has two distinct parts -

    Doxey - the area between the Greenway and the the main railway line

    Eccleshall Road - the houses around the North end of Eccleshall Road up to the Motorway roundabout.

The ward has two councillors on the Borough Council (serving 4 years - last election 2003)

Parish Council

Over the last few years there has been a campaign to enable Doxey  to have its own parish council. This is possible if an area has a distinct identity and that there is a demand.  Recently (April 2004) the idea has been approved, in principle, by the Borough and County Councils. It is now up to Whitehall to make a decision.  Watch this space.

The Parish Council has now been established.

History

In the late 19th Century Doxey became part of the Borough of Stafford having previously been part of Seighford parish. The area to the west of Greensome Lane remained in Seighford.  The two sides of Greensome Lane were in different authorities (the boundary stone can still be seen near the bus shelter).

 In the 1973 Local Goverment reorganisation the new Stafford Borough was formed from the old

  •  Stafford Borough Council
  •  Stafford Rural District Council
  •  Stone Urban District Council
  •  Stone Rural District Council

with Doxeyfields in Seighford and Doxey in the Stafford Tillington Ward.

In 2003 the M6 became the effective town boundary so now all of Doxey is in the same ward.
